(Lawrence, Kan.) – Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department’s special populations division celebrates National Therapeutic Recreation Week with a chance to experience programs offered by the department.
National Therapeutic Recreation Week runs Monday through Friday, July 12-16 and all evening programs during the week will be free and open to the public. Sign in will be required.
The week is designed for the public to learn more about therapeutic recreation and to experience the educational opportunities the Lawrence Parks and Recreation special populations division offers.
Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department recognizes the importance of therapeutic recreation in promoting healthy, active lifestyles for the entire community.

(Lawrence, Kan.) – Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department is offering an opportunity for kids to get away from their parents for a night. Kid’s Night Out: Froggy Fun will be held 5 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, July 17, at the Outdoor Aquatic Center, 727 Kentucky St.
The program includes swimming, pizza, froggy fun crafts, prizes and lots of poolside fun. The deadline to register for Kid’s Night Out: Froggy Fun is Thursday, July 15. A $15 fee must be paid at the time of registration. All activities and refreshments are included in the fee.

(Lawrence, Ks) - Infrastructure improvement projects for the week of July 12.
Project: East 23rd Street Mill and Overlay
Traffic Impact:
East 23rd Street, from Haskell to the city limits, is under construction. The milling and overlay project is expected to last approximately four weeks. Milling and patching will occur during the day; overlay operations will occur at night. One lane in each direction will remain open during construction. Delays are likely.
Project: Internal Street Maintenance – Curb and Gutter Repair/Overlay
Traffic Impact:
The 1100 Block of West Hills Terrace will have restricted on-street parking and temporary road closure during working hours.
Project: New York Street Brick Project
Traffic Impact:
The 900 block of New York Street is closed to through traffic. The block will be closed for several weeks. The intersection at 9th and New York is also closed to traffic; detours are posted.
Project: 2010 Overlay Program, Phase 2
Traffic Impact:
Temporary single lane closures are to be expected during curb and gutter removal and replacement, concrete intersection improvements, and milling and patching operations. Traffic will be generally maintained except on the day of surface asphalt overlay when a street may be closed. Access to driveways may also be restricted for several days during construction. The curb and gutter/ overlay program will begin in late June, 2010 and expected to be completed in early October, 2010 per contractor schedule.

Project: Crack Seal Program
Traffic Impact:
Contracted maintenance crews will begin crack sealing various arterial, collector, and residential street locations generally located in the area bound by 6th to 23rd St and east of Iowa St. Temporary single lane closures are to be expected but traffic will be maintained. Project: Various Area Patching Locations
Traffic Impact:
This project involves milling and overlay patching of various areas. Temporary single lane closures are to be expected but traffic will be generally maintained. Project: Water line replacement
Traffic Impact:
Iowa Street, northbound outside lane closed from Stratford to Harvard; Oxford closed to through traffic from Iowa east to Highland.
West 22nd Terrace, from Ousdahl to Naismith, no parking and closed to thru traffic from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Tomahawk Drive, from Rockfence to Lawrence Avenue, no parking and closed to thru traffic from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
TRANSIT REROUTES
Reroute at 9th and New York
The intersection of 9th and New York streets is closed for road work. Route 1 and Route 11 will use Connecticut to travel between 9th and 11th streets.
Expect delays on Route 5
Road work on East 23rd Street, from Haskell to the city limits, began Tuesday, July 6. The project is expected to last approximately four weeks. One lane in each direction will remain open during construction. Delays are likely. Passengers wishing to catch Route 5 on 23rd Street east of Haskell may be affected by the lane closures. Depending on which lane is closed, riders may need to board at an alternate stop before or after the construction area. If the outside lanes are closed, drivers will not be able to pull over to the curb.
