(Lawrence, Kan.) - Yard trimmings will not be collected on Monday, August 2. Solid Waste crews will devote the routes to collection of additional trash from the move-out weekend. If set out on August 2, yard trimmings will be collected with regular trash. Separate yard trimmings collection will resume on Monday, August 9.
The end of July is typically when a high volume of trash is created by the large number of people moving out of homes.
The city provides the following move out tips:
- Usable items such as televisions, furniture, appliances, clothing - don't discard, hold a moving sale or donate to local charities.
- Books, CDs, records, videos, tapes in good condition - donate to the Friends of the Lawrence Public Library, call (785) 843-3833.
- Bicycles - drop off at the Street Maintenance Division, call (785) 832-3031.
- Bulky items that are no longer usable, such as couches, appliances, and automobile tires - call the Solid Waste Division for pickup at (785) 832-3032.
- Paint, used motor oil and potentially hazardous chemicals - call the Waste Reduction and Recycling Division at (785) 832-3030.
- Recyclable items, such old newspapers, plastic bags and beverage containers - log on to www.LawrenceRecycles.org for recycling drop off locations.
When yard trimmings collection resumes on Monday, August 9, all yard trimmings including brush should be set out in cans, City carts or compostable paper yard waste bags by 6:00 a.m.
Alternatives to setting out yard trimmings for curbside collection are mulch mowing and backyard composting. Information on these yard waste management techniques is available at www.LawrenceRecycles.org.

(Lawrence, Ks.) – Bus stops in the downtown area will need to be moved due to the construction of a seven-story multi-use building at the southwest corner of 9th and New Hampshire. Effective August 2, buses will no longer stop along 9th Street between Vermont and New Hampshire streets.
The new downtown bus stop location for Routes 1, 4, and 7 will be on the east side of New Hampshire, north of 9th Street. The new downtown bus stop location for Routes 3, 6, 10, and 11 will be on the north side of 9th Street, between New Hampshire and Rhode Island streets.
The relocation of these bus stops is temporary, but will continue for the duration of the construction project, which is expected to last a year.
