1) Inverness Drive street maintenance project to begin
2) City infrastructure improvement projects for the week of August 2

(Lawrence, Kan.) – Beginning on August 2, Inverness Drive from Bob Billings Parkway to Clinton Parkway, will be reduced to single-lane closures with possible intermittent block-long street closures. One-way traffic will be allowed in the northbound direction only for the duration of the project. Consider other routes of travel through the area. Local traffic access will be generally maintained, but there may be periods of time that direct access to driveways may be restricted. Work is expected to be completed in mid-to-late September.

Project: East 23rd Street Mill and Overlay
Traffic Impact: East 23rd Street, from Haskell to the city limits, is under construction. The milling and overlay project is expected to last approximately four weeks. Milling and patching will occur during the day; overlay operations will occur at night. One lane in each direction will remain open during construction. Delays are likely.
Project: New Jersey Pipe Replacement
Traffic Impact: East 13th street from New Jersey to New York will be down to one lane for traffic going west bound. Project should last one week and only affect traffic during working hours of 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. City of Lawrence stormwater crew will be installing a storm sewer in the north road right-of-way of East 13th Street.
Project: Asphalt Pavement Replacement
Traffic Impact: Bob White at Bob Billings will be closed to through traffic during the work day hours. During the day, traffic will be detoured to George Williams Way for access and during the evening, traffic will be allowed to enter from Bob Billings onto Bob White but will only be allowed to exit using George Williams Way. The closure is related to replacement of asphalt at the approach and concrete repairs. Construction on this project is expected to last two weeks.
Project: Inverness Drive Concrete Rehabilitation
Traffic Impact: Inverness Drive from Bob Billings Parkway to Clinton Parkway will be reduced to single-lane closures with possible intermittent block-long street closures. One-way traffic will be allowed in the northbound direction only for the duration of the project. Consider other routes of travel through the area. Project: New York Street Brick Project
Traffic Impact: The 900 block of New York Street is closed to through traffic. The block will be closed for several weeks. The intersection at 9th and New York is also closed to traffic; detours are posted.
Project: Pump Station PS09 Wet Weather Storage Basin
Traffic Impact: No street closures or detours. Additional heavy truck and equipment traffic related to the project along Brush Creek Drive between Kasold and Crossgate. Construction equipment traveling along site will access drive from Brush Creek Drive and cross recreation path east of Crossgate. Warning signage to be provided along recreation path at crossing of access drive.
Project: 2010 Overlay Program, Phase 2
Traffic Impact: Temporary single lane closures are to be expected during curb and gutter removal and replacement, concrete intersection improvements, and milling and patching operations. Traffic will be generally maintained except on the day of surface asphalt overlay when a street may be closed. Access to driveways may also be restricted for several days during construction. The curb and gutter/ overlay program will begin in late June, 2010 and expected to be completed in early October, 2010 per contractor schedule.

Project: Crack Seal Program
Traffic Impact: Contracted maintenance crews will begin crack sealing various arterial, collector, and residential street locations generally located in the area bound by 6th to 23rd St and east of Iowa St. Temporary single lane closures are to be expected but traffic will be maintained. Project: Various Area Patching Locations
Traffic Impact: This project involves milling and overlay patching of various areas. Temporary single lane closures are to be expected but traffic will be generally maintained. Project: Connecticut Street Mill and Overlay Patching
Traffic Impact: A milling and overlay patching project on Connecticut Street from 7th to 15th Street is currently underway. The project is expected to last approximately two weeks and will occur during the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. During construction, one block at a time will be closed to traffic. Access for residents and businesses in the area will be maintained.
Project: Water line replacement
Traffic Impact: Iowa Street, northbound outside lane closed from University to Oxford; Oxford is open to through traffic east of Iowa Street. Stratford Road closed to through traffic from Iowa east to Hilltop and University Drive is closed to through traffic from Iowa east to Raintree Place.
West 22nd Terrace, from Ousdahl to Naismith, no parking and closed to thru traffic from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Tomahawk Drive, from Rockfence to Lawrence Avenue, no parking and closed to thru traffic from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
TRANSIT REROUTES
Downtown bus stops relocated
Bus stops in the downtown area will need to be moved due to the construction of a seven-story multi-use building at the southwest corner of 9th and New Hampshire. Effective August 2, buses will no longer stop along 9th Street between Vermont and New Hampshire streets.
The new downtown bus stop location for Routes 1, 4, and 7 will be on the east side of New Hampshire, north of 9th Street. The new downtown bus stop location for Routes 3, 6, 10, and 11 will be on the north side of 9th Street, between New Hampshire and Rhode Island streets.
The relocation of these bus stops is temporary, but will continue for the duration of the construction project, which is expected to last a year.
Route 4 reroute on Aug. 5
On Thursday, Aug. 5, a portion of Vermont Street will be closed from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. for an event at the Lawrence Public Library. Route 4 will reroute during that time. Heading south on Vermont, Route 4 will turn right on 7th, left on Tennessee, left on 9th and back on route.
Routes 11 and 41 to reroute during Jayhawk Boulevard closure
A portion of Jayhawk Boulevard will be closed to traffic during evening and early morning hours for road work. Both lanes of Jayhawk Boulevard between the Chi Omega Fountain and Poplar Lane will be closed from 5:45 p.m. to 7:15 a.m. Riders who wish to catch Route 11 should move to the bus stop at the Jayhawk Bookstore or the Kansas Union. For Route 41, passengers should catch the bus at the Jayhawk Bookstore. The project is expected to last another week.
Reroute at 9th and New York
The intersection of 9th and New York streets is closed for road work. Route 1 and Route 11 will use Connecticut to travel between 9th and 11th streets.
Expect delays on Route 5
Road work on East 23rd Street, from Haskell to the city limits, began Tuesday, July 6. The project is expected to last approximately four weeks. One lane in each direction will remain open during construction. Delays are likely. Passengers wishing to catch Route 5 on 23rd Street east of Haskell may be affected by the lane closures. Depending on which lane is closed, riders may need to board at an alternate stop before or after the construction area. If the outside lanes are closed, drivers will not be able to pull over to the curb.
