City preparing for first possible snow event tonight
(Lawrence, Kan.) – City of Lawrence Street Maintenance crews are on duty. The crews began preparations today for winter weather that may affect Lawrence this evening, sometime between 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. Crews pre-treated designated roadways with a saltwater solution during the daytime and will head back out on the roadways as soon as precipitation begins to fall to continue treatment of roadways.
The majority of the precipitation is expected to be north and east of Lawrence but there is a chance that 0.5-inches to two-inches is possible.
“There is potential for roadways to become slick with the dropping temperatures and the forecast calling for snow,” said Mark Thiel, assistant public works director. “Crews are ready to treat roadways with sand and salt throughout the evening as necessary. As always, our reminder to motorists is to slow down and allow plenty of time to get to your destination to avoid accidents.”
