City ships first load of glass for recycling
(Lawrence, Kan.) – Since the inception of the City of Lawrence Waste Reduction and Recycling Division’s new glass recycling program three weeks ago, residents and businesses have dropped off approximately 25 tons of glass bottles and jars. The amount accumulated is equivalent to one truck load necessary for a scheduled pick up. The city is coordinating with Ripple Glass to transport the glass from Lawrence to Ripple Glass’ facility in Kansas City, Missouri. The glass will primarily be recycled into fiberglass insulation. Amber colored glass will be separated and recycled directly back into new bottle glass for Ripple Glass’ partner, Boulevard Brewing Company.
Glass food and beverage containers of any color are accepted at four convenient, community recycling drop-off locations:
· Dillons, 6th & Wakarusa Drive
· Hy-Vee, Clinton Parkway & Kasold Drive
· Hy-Vee, 6th & Monterey Way
· On The Rocks, 1818 Massachusetts Street
