1)   2012 Summer/Fall Activities Guide to be released
(Lawrence, Kan.) - Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department announces the release of the 2012 Summer/Fall Activities Guide, listingclass offerings and activities to be held throughout the summer and fall months.               
The 2012 Summer/Fall  Activities Guide will be distributed through the Sunday, April 1, edition of the Lawrence Journal-World, as well as at all Parks and Recreation Department facilities, including the: Community Building, 115 West 11th St.; East Lawrence Recreation Center, 1245 East 15th St.; Holcom Park Recreation Center, 2700 West 27th St.; Lawrence Indoor Aquatic Center, 4706 Overland Drive; Prairie Park Nature Center, 2730 Harper St.; Eagle Bend Golf Course and Learning Center, 1250 East 902 Rd. and the Administrative Office, 947 New Hampshire St., Suite 200B.
An advance copy of the guide can be viewed on the department’s website, www.lprd.org.
Citizens have several options for registering for classes including online, mailing or visiting a department facility. Online enrollment for all summer/fall activities and programs will begin Sunday, April 1, at www.lprd.org. Parks and Recreation facilities will begin taking summer/fall registrations beginning Monday, April 2.
The department has developed more than 400 programs and activities each season in which citizens may participate. Many summer camp offerings are also listed, including the long-running Summer Playgrounds program.
All program registration is done on a first-come, first-serve basis. Certain classes and programs have minimum and maximum enrollment. Registration is required before the first class. Waiting lists will be formed when programs are filled and every attempt will be made to accommodate people on waiting lists.

Discounts are available for adults 60 years-old and older on most classes. Parks and Recreation also has scholarships available for youth programs and activities through the Wee Folks Scholarship Fund for department programs, except co-sponsored programs. Scholarship applications are available at all recreation centers and online on the department’s website.

2)   Houk League registration deadline nearing
(Lawrence, Kan.) – Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department is accepting registrations for its 2012 Louie Holcom Baseball Association’s Houk league.
The Houk league’s registration deadline is Tuesday, April 3. It is open to boys 13 years-old to 15-years old, and has its teams formed by individual entry and player evaluation.  The season runs mid-May through the beginning of August.  Participants must attend an evaluation session, which is being held noon to 2 p.m.  Sunday, April 22 and they must be also registered prior to the session.
Registration is $110 per participant. Game shirts and caps are provided. The objective of the leagues is to assist boys in developing their baseball skills in a competitive environment. Player eligibility is determined by the age of the participant as of Dec. 31, 2011.
