2) Retiree Attraction Task Force holding public forum
(Lawrence, Kan.) – The joint city/county Retiree Attraction Task Force will hold a public forum on Monday, April 16 from 4-6 p.m. at City Hall, 6 E. 6th Street, to solicit feedback from the Lawrence community on what issues most affect the Lawrence and Douglas County in relation to senior services and retirement considerations. The task force is developing recommendations that are to be provided to the City Commission and County Commission by the end of May. The Retiree Attraction Task Force was created in July 2011 with the goal of creating discussion amongst the community and service providers as it relates to attraction and retention of retirees to Lawrence and Douglas County.
“As a group, the task force members have been enthusiastic and excited with the opportunities in Lawrence and Douglas County for retiree attraction,” said Hugh Carter, Lawrence City Commissioner. “What we need now is more public input to make sure that our small group is on the right track as we finalize our recommendations and policy considerations.”
The task force has met regularly for the past seven months and is developing recommendations for the governing bodies to review. The task force divided into subcommittees relating to various aspects of retirement life and services to review issues surrounding the retention and attraction of retirees.
“I am looking forward to additional public comment as we continue to formulate the recommendations that will eventually be provided to the governing bodies,” said Jim Flory, Douglas County Commissioner.
Anyone unable to attend but interested in submitting comments to the task force can do so by emailing Cynthia Wagner, assistant city manager, at cwagner@lawrenceks.org.
