Park shelters and restrooms to open for the season

Park shelters and restrooms to open for the season
(Lawrence, Kan.) – Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department reminds citizens all outdoor park shelters, gazebos and restrooms will open Friday, April 13.

Shelters may be reserved between Friday, April 13 and Wednesday, Oct. 31. Reservations  may be made one year in advance of the date requested and must be received no later than two working days (Monday through Friday) prior to the date requested.
Full-day and half-day rentals are offered for shelters and two-hour, half-day and full-day rentals are offered for gazebos. Half-day and two-hour rentals are scheduled between 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. or 4 p.m. - 9 p.m. Full-day rentals are from 10 a.m. - 9 p.m.

Shelter rental fees are $35 for a half-day and $65 for a full-day for all shelters excluding Centennial Park; Centennial Park Shelter rates are $45 for a half-day and $80 for a full-day rental due to the size of the shelter. Reservations are accepted for the following shelters: Broken Arrow Park, 2900 Louisiana St.; Burcham Park, 200 Indiana St.; Centennial Park (on both the east and west sides of the park), 600 Rockledge Road; Clinton Lake Outlet Park, 1316 East 902 Road; Clinton Park, 901 West 5th St.; Dad Perry Park (on both the north and west sides of the park), 1200 Monterey Way; Hobbs Park, 702 East 11th St. Holcom Park, 2700 West 27th St.; Lyon Park, 700 North Lyon St. and Prairie Park, 2811 Kensington Road.

Shelters at Deerfield Park, 2901 Princeton Boulevard; Brook Creek Park, 1200 Brook St. and John Taylor Park, 200 North 7th St., are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Reservations are not accepted for these locations.

Gazebo rental rates are $25 for a two-hour rental, $40 for a half-day and $75 for a full-day. Gazebos are located at South Park, 1311 Massachusetts St., Watson Park, 6th and Kentucky Sts. and the Lawrence Rotary Arboretum, 5100 W. 27th St.

Parks and Recreation also has space available at several indoor facilities available year-round to accommodate receptions, showers and party needs. These facilities may be reserved up to one calendar year in advance.
Reservations for outdoor shelters, gazebos and indoor facilities are taken at all community recreation centers, including: the Community Building, 115 West 11th St.; East Lawrence Recreation Center, 1245 East 15th St.; Holcom Park Recreation Center, 2700 West 27th St.; Lawrence Indoor Aquatic Center, 4706 Overland Drive and the Parks and Recreation Administrative Office, 947 New Hampshire St., Suite 200B.

Anyone who reserves a shelter is responsible for the clean-up of the area after their event is held. The Parks and Recreation Department discourages the use of glass bottles in parks.
