1)   6th Street mill and overlay work begins on Monday
(Lawrence, Kan.) – Beginning next week, drivers on 6th Street west of Iowa can expect some delays during their commute. On Monday, May 21, contractors for the City of Lawrence will begin a mill and overlay project on 6th Street from Iowa to Monterey Way. Contractors will begin with replacement of the curb and gutter on eastbound 6th Street from Monterey Way to Kasold. Work will also focus on installing the eastbound right turn lane at 6th and Kasold. The outside lane of eastbound traffic will be closed during work activities.
For the duration of the project, contractors will keep one lane in each direction available for motorists but delays are expected. Alternate routes include Bob Billings Parkway or 23rd Street. The entire project is due for completion by August 10; general working hours are between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. When overlay operations begin, contractors may work earlier in the day.
