1) City adds more mobile features to website
(Lawrence, Kan.) - A new feature has been added to the City of Lawrence website,www.lawrenceks.org, to provide a better experience for mobile users using some forms to request city services.
Mobile users can visit http://lawrenceks.org/mobile to experience the new feature. The mobile section is designed to work well on a variety of mobile devices. The site is launching with two features to start.
The Request page includes links to mobile-friendly forms for reporting potholes, graffiti, code enforcement problems, and more. The Contact page gives quick access to many departments email and phone numbers, including those of the City Commission.
The city is preparing additional mobile features to be rolled out later this year.

2) Building inspection and permit system changing; system down for maintenance this weekend
(Lawrence, Kan.) - The City of Lawrence is changing permitting software systems in order to provide new and better services. The new software system will be installed over the weekend of June 1st-3rd. The current system will go offline at 5pm on Friday June 1, 2012 and the new system will be up and running by 8am on Monday June 4, 2012. During this transition, the Inspection Hotline and online inspection scheduling will be unavailable and no permitting or inspection related activity will be able to be processed.
To avoid delays in scheduling inspections staff recommends that contractors complete the scheduling process for any inspections needed for Monday, June 4 and Tuesday, June 5 before 5 p.m. on Friday June 1. This will ensure that those inspections are set and carried over to the new system.
The new Citizen Access portal will also be online on Monday, June 4, and will replace the current online permit and inspection tracking system. To register and set up an account in the new Citizen Access portal email or call the Development Services office on or after June 4. There will be information on the website, https://lawrenceks.org/pds, on how to request registration information. Email inquiries should be sent to buildinginspections@lawrenceks.org. Please note that requests may take time to process depending on the volume of contractors requesting registration.
Staff is working to implement these systems as seamlessly as possible and is excited about the potential of these new systems to improve customer access to permitting and inspection services. More information about these systems and how they may be used to full advantage will be forthcoming in the next newsletter. During this interim transition period, your patience is appreciated. If you are experiencing any problems please contact the Development Services Division at (785) 832-7700 and staff will provide assistance.
