Looking for outstanding artists: nominations welcome for Phoenix Awards
(Lawrence, Kan.) - The Phoenix Awards, given annually by the Lawrence Cultural Arts Commission, recognize outstanding artistic achievements in the Lawrence community. Members of the public are invited to make nominations. Eligible nominees include artists working in the visual, literary, musical, theatrical, and media arts. Arts educators, administrators, advocates, and volunteers are also eligible.
For 2012, a new "Creative Spaces" Award category has been added to recognize outstanding achievement in imaginative and environmentally forward-thinking place-making. The Phoenix Award Committee will accept nominations for public or business places whose design and/or function advance the artistic environment of the Lawrence community.  Also, at the discretion of the Lawrence Cultural Arts Commission, a nominee may be chosen for a special Exceptional Artistic Achievement award.
This year’s awardees will be recognized at a ceremony to be held on Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012 at 2 pm at the Lawrence Arts Center, 940 New Hampshire Street.
