1) Indoor Aquatic Center to host large swim meet
(Lawrence, Kan.) – Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department’s Aquatic Division will host the Wave the Wheat Meet, Thursday through Sunday, July 5-8, at the Indoor Aquatic Center, 4706 Overland Drive.
The competition will affect the availability of the Indoor Aquatic Center’s lap and leisure pools. The leisure pool will remain open 1 to 8:45 p.m. Thursday, July 5, with lap swimming available 5:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. The lap pool will be closed from 1 p.m. Thursday, July 5, through Sunday, July 8, to accommodate the swim meet. The leisure pool will also be closed Friday – Sunday, July 6-8.
The Outdoor Aquatic Center, 727 Kentucky St., will be available for public swimming 1 to 8:45 p.m. daily. Additional hours have been made available for lap swimming at the Outdoor Aquatic Center while the meet is being held. The additional hours for lap swimming are: 9 a.m. – 12:45 p.m., Saturday, July 7, and 10 a.m. – 12:45 p.m. Sunday, July 8.
The Indoor Aquatic Center will resume its normal operating hours on Monday, July 9.
The meet is expected to attract more than 750 swimmers and approximately 1,800 spectators to Lawrence. It is the largest youth competitive swim meet in the Missouri Valley swimming region.

2) Registration for week-long dance camp continues
(Lawrence, Kan.) – Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department’s Center Stage Dance Camp is coming up for those dancers who are ready to shine.
The camp developed for youth 7 years-old to 12 years-old exposes them to a variety of dance styles through daily technique and structured choreographic activities, promoting creativity and self-expression. Camp attendees will present their choreographed dance to friends and family on the final day of the camp.
Center Stage Dance Camp is being held 1 to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, July 16-20. Cost is $65 per child for each camp session.
Pre-registration is required and can be conducted online at www.lprd.org or by visiting a Lawrence Parks and Recreation facility, including: the Community Building, 115 West 11th St.; East Lawrence Recreation Center, 1245 East 15th St.; Holcom Park Recreation Center, 2700 West 27th St.; Lawrence Indoor Aquatic Center, 4706 Overland Drive; Prairie Park Nature Center, 2730 Harper St. or the Administrative Offices in Historic South Park, 1141 Massachusetts St.
The camp will be held at the Community Building.
