6th Street mill/overlay to begin; crews will work in overnight hours
(Lawrence, Kan.) – Contractors for the City of Lawrence announced today that the mill and overlay project on 6th Street, from Lawrence Avenue to Iowa Street, will begin on Monday, July 23. The city is approving work to begin at midnight because temperatures will be lower and there is less traffic impact overnight.
Prior to the mill and overlay operation, crews worked to replace curbs and gutters, widen a turn lane at Rockledge, add a bus turn-out lane at Schwarz, and perform street patching in preparation for milling.
For the duration of the project, contractors will keep one lane in each direction available for motorists but delays are expected. Alternate routes include Bob Billings Parkway or 23rd Street. The entire project is due for completion by August 10.
