1)   Water main repair closes Louisiana Street between West 21st and Greever Terrace
(Lawrence, Kan.) – Louisiana Street will be closed between West 21st and Greever Terrace possibly through tomorrow as Utilities crews repair a water main. Traffic control devices are set up to detour traffic that is traveling on Louisiana. Southbound traffic on Louisiana will be diverted east on 21st Street to Ohio, south to 22nd Street, and west to Louisiana. Northbound traffic on Louisiana will be diverted east on 22nd street to Ohio, north to 21st Street, and west to Louisiana. Utilities crews have notified all affected customers. Water service to Lawrence High School has not been affected.
The water main is a 12 inch ductile iron pipe installed in 1990.

2)   Weatherization grants for Lawrence homeowners close next week
(Lawrence, Kan.) – Friday, August 31 is the deadline for weatherization grants. The City of Lawrence has funds available for weatherizing homes throughout Lawrence. Eligible improvements include attic insulation, storm windows and entry door weather-stripping.
In an effort to prepare Lawrence residents for cold weather, the Community Development Division of the Planning and Development Department will administer grant money provided through the Community Development Block Grant. The program has an emphasis on weatherization because when homeowners reduce the amount of outside air entering a home, energy efficiency is increased.
To be eligible for assistance through the weatherization program, homeowners must meet the following requirements:
  1. The home for which the application is being made cannot have received weatherization assistance from the city since January 1, 1993.
  2. The home must be owner occupied with no more than two dwelling units.
  3. Mobile homes are not eligible for this program.
  4. Annual gross family income cannot exceed the following guidelines:
 Family Size         Maximum Income
1                           $40,050.00
2                           $45,800.00
3                           $51,500.00
4                           $57,200.00
5                           $61,800.00
6                           $66,400.00
7                           $70,950.00
8+                         $75,550.00
Grants for energy saving improvements do not require repayments of assistance. Grants will be awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis. The deadline for application is 5:00 p.m., August 31, 2012.
Grant applications are available in the Planning and Development Services Offices at 1 Riverfront Plaza, on Level 1, Suite 110 or on the website at www.lawrenceks.org/pds/housing_programs. Call (785) 832-7700 for more information.

The performances will be at 7:30 p.m. on August 24 and August 25. Tickets are $15 for the public, $10 for students and $14 for seniors and KU employees. They can be purchased at the performance, at kutheatre.com or by calling 864-3982.
