1) City offices to close Monday, Sept. 3 for Labor Day
(Lawrence, Kan.) - City offices will be closed Monday Sept. 3, in observance of the Labor Day holiday.
Lawrence Transit System will be closed on the holiday and both fixed route and paratransit buses will not run.
There will be no yard trimmings collection on Monday, Sept. 3. If set out, yard trimmings will be collected during the normal weekly trash pickup. No other changes are planned in the solid waste route schedules. Commercial solid waste pickups will run as usual.
To report a water or sewer emergency after business hours or during weekends and holidays, contact the Utilities Department at (785) 832-7878.
Parking at meters in downtown Lawrence will be free on Monday.
The Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department announces Labor Day hours for its facilities:
All recreation centers will be closed. This includes: the Community Building, 115 W. 11th St.; East Lawrence Recreation Center, 1245 E. 15th St. and Holcom Park Recreation Center, 2700 W. 27th St. The Administrative Offices in South Park, 1141 Massachusetts St., and Prairie Park Nature Center, 2730 Harper St., will also be closed.
There will also be no recreational classes, aquatic classes, special populations activities, special events, adult sports or youth sports held on the holiday
The cemeteries office, located at the Administrative Offices in South Park, will be closed but all cemeteries will be open throughout the day, including: Oak Hill Cemetery, 1605 Oak Hill Rd.; Maple Grove Cemetery, located at the junction of Highway 24, Highway 40 and Highway 59; and Memorial Park Cemetery, 1517 E. 15 St.
Eagle Bend Golf Course, 1250 E. 902 Rd., will be accepting tee times from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Carl Knox Natatorium will be closed. However, the Indoor Aquatic Center, 4706 Overland Drive, will be open the following hours on the holiday:
Lap Swimming
9 a.m. to 7:45 p.m.
Warm Water Workout will take place noon to 1 p.m.
Waterslide and Diving Area
1 to 7:30 p.m.
Zero Depth and Children’s Area
1 to 7:45 p.m.
The Aquatic Division office will however be closed for the day.

2) Fall gymnastics available
(Lawrence, Kan.) —Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department has openings in its fall gymnastics program.
From Parent/Tot Tumbling to Gymnastics Level 4, Parks and Recreation has a program for children to begin their track on becoming the next big Olympic star. Programs are open to children two years-old to 17 years-old and offer a varying level of skills and program outcomes. Programs begin the second full-week of September and have a varying level of fees for each program.
To see the complete list of offerings, please refer to the Parks and Recreation 2013 Summer/Fall Activities Guide, which can be found on the department’s website, www.lprd.org. Copies may also be obtained at all Parks and Recreation facility.

3) Dance the fall away with LPRD
(Lawrence, Kan.) – The Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department will help kids dance their way into fall.
The department offers a variety of dance classes for children. Class offerings range from ballet to hip hop and enrollment is dependent upon meeting the class age requirement. The full list of courses offered may be found at:
Dance classes are offered weekday mornings and evenings, as well as Saturday mornings to fit any schedule. Fees for the classes also vary, due to length and time of programs.
