1) City preparing to order trash carts, delivery to start mid-October
(Lawrence, Kan.) - The City of Lawrence will be placing an order of approximately 21,000 trash carts on Monday, September 24th. An address list will also be submitted to the city’s contractor who will be delivering trash carts October 15th through November 9th to all Lawrence single-family residences not currently renting a cart from the city or not served by a trash dumpster.
A standard 65-gallon trash cart will be delivered to households unless a trash cart change request is submitted before September 24th. If you would like to request a different size cart, please complete the online form at www.lawrenceks.org/carts. Customers may also call the Solid Waste Division at 832-3032 to submit their request.
The following timeline will be used for implementation of the trash carts in Lawrence:

September 22nd, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Trash carts (3 sizes) will be on display at the Lawrence Energy Conservation Fair at Holcom Park Recreation Center, 2700 W. 27th Street. City staff will answer trash cart questions and help customers identify which size is the right cart size for their household.

Trash cart change requests submitted before September 24th
|
Households will receive the trash cart size they requested by phone or online form. All other households will receive the standard 65-gallon trash cart.

September 24th
|
The city will place the trash cart order and submit an address list to the contractor who will deliver trash carts to households.

Trash cart change requests submitted September 24th through November 9th
|
Households submitting a trash cart change request after September 24th will receive a standard 65-gallon trash cart and shortly after the delivery the City will swap the standard cart with the trash cart size requested.

October 15th through November 9th
|
The city’s contractor will deliver trash carts to households.

Trash cart change requests submitted after November 9th
|
By November 9th all households will have received a trash cart and the “120-day right-sizing” period begins. Households may request to switch to a different size trash cart and/or city staff will identify the cart size option which best fits individual customer needs.

November 9th and November 16th
|
The city will collect old trash containers for recycling. Households may set these out by 6 a.m. at the curb or alley. Trash containers must be empty (no trash).

2) KDOT to host public open house for proposed K-10 & Bob Billings Parkway/15th Street interchange project
(Lawrence, Kan.) - The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT), along with the City of Lawrence and Douglas County, are hosting a public open house for the proposed K-10 and Bob Billings Parkway/15th Street Interchange Project on Monday, September 24, 2012. The public is invited to stop by the open house-style meeting anytime between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. in the Langston Hughes Elementary School Multipurpose Room, 1101 George Williams Way, Lawrence, KS 66049. There will be no formal presentations.
We invite anyone interested in the proposed interchange project to stop by the open house to learn about the project and view displays, including an overview map of the proposed interchange. KDOT, City of Lawrence and Douglas County staff will be on hand to answer questions. We would like your input and suggestions on the interchange project and look forward to hearing your feedback.
The meeting location is ADA accessible. Persons in need of a sign language interpreter, an assistive listening device, large print or Braille material, or other accommodation to participate in this meeting should notify Kimberly Qualls, KDOT NE Kansas Public Affairs Manager at (785) 296-3881 at least one week in advance of the meeting. 3) Opportunities to exhibit arts and crafts at upcoming fairs
(Lawrence, Kan.) – Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department’s Special Events Division has space available for exhibitors for the long-running arts and crafts shows, the Holiday Bazaar and the Holiday Extravaganza.
The Holiday Bazaar will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 18, at the Community Building, 115 W. 11th St. Entry deadline is 6:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 12. No commercial jewelry or items made from commercial kits will be accepted. Fee for exhibitors is $60 for an 8 ft. x 8 ft. space. Table rental will be available for $10 per table. Electricity will also be available for an additional $5. Registration forms can be found at:
The Holiday Extravaganza will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, 4-H Fairgrounds, Building No. 21, 2120 Harper St. Entry deadline is Monday, Nov. 26. Both non-commercial and commercial exhibitors are welcome. Fees for exhibitors are $60 for non-commercial vendors and $105 for Commercial vendors. Exhibit space is 8 ft. x 8 ft. Table rental will be available for $10 per table. Electricity will also be available for an additional $5.
