1)   Transit systems win national award for map and schedule design

(Lawrence, Kan.) – The transit systems of the City of Lawrence and The University of Kansas have been honored for the design of their map and schedule guide by the American Public Transportation Association.

The award was given during the APTA Annual Meeting in Seattle on Oct. 1.

“The joint development team has worked hard to develop a quality publication that our passengers find easy to use,” said Danny Kaiser, assistant director for KU Parking & Transit. “It is gratifying to receive this kind of national recognition.”

The 2011-2012 edition of the joint Transit Guide, which shows bus route information for the city and KU, was entered in the contest. The publication earned first place among public transportation systems with 4 million or fewer passenger trips per year in the category Print Media: Schedule Notice/Timetable.

“This is an example of how coordination between the city and the university can result in a quality product,” said Robert Nugent, transit administrator for the Lawrence Transit System.

The two transit systems have published a combined Transit Guide since 2009, providing all bus maps and schedules in one convenient document.
