1) Mummy & Son accepting registrations
(Lawrence, Kan.) – Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department is offering a special event specifically for moms and sons that will provide a ghoulishly good time.
The Mummy and Son Masquerade Ball will be held 6:30-9 p.m., Friday, Oct. 19, at Building No. 21 on the 4-H Fairgrounds, 2120 Harper St. It is open to moms and their son’s ages 6 years-old to 12 years-old.
The cost of the event is $37 per couple, and each additional son is $18. A late fee will be applied to registration after Oct. 12. Each participant will receive a 5x7 photo, dinner, beverages and the chance to participate in carnival games. There will also be a DJ, so participants will be able to do the Monster Mash. Prizes will be awarded.

2) Indoor Aquatic Center to host Kid’s Night Out: Creepy Crawlers
(Lawrence, Kan.) – Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department is offering Kid’s Night Out: Creepy Crawlers, 4:30-7:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 19, at the Indoor Aquatic Center, 4706 Overland Drive. This is a no-school day for USD 497 students.
Kids will enjoy a spooky night of swimming, pizza, games and crafts. Kids will also participate in interactive activities in a safe, supervised environment. Participants are asked to bring a towel.
The registration deadline is Tuesday, Oct. 16. A $15 fee must be paid at the time of registration. All activities and refreshments are included in the fee.

3) Register for the 41st annual Halloween Paint-In
(Lawrence, Kan.) – Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department, Downtown Lawrence, Inc. and the Lawrence Breakfast Optimists Club are hosting the 41st annual Halloween Paint-In 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 20, in Downtown Lawrence.
The event is free and open to anyone in the third grade and older, as well as adults. In this 41st anniversary year, those who have participated in the past are encouraged to sign up and participate again.
Participants must submit a sketch of their window design at Holcom Park Recreation Center, 2700 W. 27th St., prior to painting day. Participants must register by 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, to participate.
Entrants are also required to attend an organizational meeting at Holcom Park Recreation Center 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17. Each participant will receive a Halloween Paint-In T-shirt.
