City to alter residential trash collection over Thanksgiving holiday
(Lawrence, Kan.) – The City of Lawrence Solid Waste Division is moving its Thursday residential collection day due to the Thanksgiving holiday.  Only residential customers with regularly scheduled trash day on Thursday will be affected.

Thursday residential customers living north of 23rd Street/Clinton Parkway will have their trash picked up on Tuesday, Nov. 20, and those living south of 23rd Street/Clinton Parkway will have their trash picked up on Wednesday, Nov. 21

In previous years, the Thursday collection day was pushed back to Friday. This year there will be no residential trash collection on Thursday, Nov. 22, or Friday, Nov. 23.

The schedule was modified last year for the first time. Tammy Bennett , assistant director of Public Works, said the change gave employees a chance to be with their families, as well as hold back on overtime pay.

“Over the long holiday, we are balancing services to our residential customers with the ability to give a number of our employees a long holiday weekend with their families, and minimizing overtime expenses,” Bennett said.

The regular collection schedule will resume the following week.
