Opportunity to recycle old trash containers this Friday
(Lawrence, Kan.) – As part of the implementation plan for the roll out of the new trash carts for single-family residential customers, the City of Lawrence will offer residents an opportunity to recycle old trash containers on Friday, Nov. 16. City crews will collect old trash containers at residences.
Set out instructions for old trash containers to be recycled:
- Set out trash containers at the curb or alley (location where you normally set out your trash for collection) by 6:00 a.m. on Friday, November 16th.
- Mark an “X” on trash containers to be recycled.
- Make sure each trash container is empty (no trash, please).
Old trash containers collected will be recycled by Rehrig Pacific, a cart manufacturer, who will convert the plastic trash containers into regrind to be reused in their manufacturing processes. Metal trash cans will be recycled as scrap metal.
Before you opt to recycle your old trash containers, please consider using the containers for other purposes. Consider using your old trash containers to set out yard waste on Mondays for composting or repurpose your old trash containers by turning them into storage containers.
For more information, contact the City’s Solid Waste Division at 832-3032 or email carts@lawrenceks.org.
