Mayor to recognize Sister Cities partners from Eutin and Hiratsuka
(Lawrence, Kan.) – At the City Commission meeting on Tuesday, February 19 at 6:35 p.m., Mayor Robert Schumm will recognize Mr. Helmut Schewee of Eutin, Germany, and Mr. Yoshimi Tomita of Hiratsuka, Japan, for their dedication to our Sister Cities’ partnerships.
Mr. Schewee was the first person to propose that Lawrence and Eutin form a Sister Cities partnership. He also assisted in establishing the internship exchanges between Lawrence and Eutin.
Mr. Tomita was instrumental in establishing the Sister Cities partnership between Lawrence and Hiratsuka. He led the first delegation to Lawrence, and has met every Lawrence student delegation to Hiratsuka since 1990.
Both Mr. Schewee and Mr. Tomita will receive keys to the City for their commitment and service to our cities’ partnerships.
