Snow operations continue, trash service for Friday
(Lawrence, Kan.) - The City of Lawrence continues to plow priority roadways from the snow storm today. On average, Lawrence received approximately 10-inches of snow. Crews are working around-the-clock treating and plowing roadways. Tonight, crews will continue plowing priority streets and expect to move into plowing residential areas between 4:00 and 6:00 a.m. Contract crews have been called in to assist with residential areas.
"We would strongly recommend that drivers, who must get out proceed with caution and leave plenthy of extra time for their morning commute," said Mark Thiel, assistant public works director. "The roads can still be snow packed and there is always the potential for re-freezing."
Crews will continue plowing operations through Saturday and then will spend the remainder of the weekend preparing for another snow event which is forecasted for Sunday night into Monday morning.
City sanitation workers will be working on Friday to pick up trash that was not collected on Friday due to the snow.
