FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Snow Update, Feb. 22, 9 a.m.

(Lawrence, ,Kan.) - The City of Lawrence street maintenence crews and private contractors continue their plowing operations this morning.  Crews have been working in the residential neighborhoods, focusing on hilly areas of town, since early Friday morning. Lawrence received approximately 11-inches of snow.

"The city has all resources available out and working," said Tom Orzulak, street maintenance supervisor.  "We haven't had any break-downs or accidents so things are moving along at a good pace."

The city expects that all residential neighborhoods will be plowed by Saturday morning and then crews will turn their attention to restocking supplies and repairing equipment for a possible snow event on Sunday evening.

After noon yesterday, when the snow subsided, crews were able to start to make progress on the snow plan.  Crews plowed main thoroughfares first and treated roadways.  The next step in the process is to move into residential areas and get those streets plowed.
