1)   Snow crews on duty and ready to treat roads
(Lawrence, Kan.) – Even though yesterday was the start of spring, City of Lawrence snow operations crews are still in winter mode and ready to tackle snow. Snow crews reported at 4:00 a.m. on Thursday morning and will remain on 24-hour shifts until the threat of winter precipitation is over, most likely until Sunday at Noon.
Today’s snow showers are forecasted to bring anywhere from a half inch to two inches of snow in Lawrence but the temperatures will hover around freezing so roads will most likely just be wet. If temperatures and road pavement temperatures drop below freezing overnight, crews will be on duty to treat roads and areas of slickness. Friday’s temperatures are forecasted above freezing – with periods of rain/drizzle - but the same issue of overnight freezing could be a problem. On Saturday, more snow/rain is expected with precipitation ending in the morning/early afternoon on Sunday.
“City crews will most likely be on duty through Sunday at Noon,” said Mark Thiel, assistant public works director. “We will keep an eye on temperatures and conditions throughout the weekend and have crews available to treat roadways as needed.”
As always, anytime there is winter weather, the city recommends motorists plan ahead for travel, plan extra time for travel and leave plenty of space between you and the other cars on the road.

2)   Parks and Recreation offers free wellness program for youth, adults
(Lawrence, Kan.) - Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department will host wellness programs for both children and adults Wednesday, April 10, in the Art Room of the Community Building, 115 W. 11 St. The programs are free and open to the public.
The children’s health program will be held 6-6:30 p.m. and is open to children ages 4 years-old to 8 years-old. It will introduce children to the fun loving characters of The OrganWise Guys. The session will focus on giving children a foundation to living a healthy life with material focusing on age appropriate nutrition education, along with healthy tips for parents to take home. This is a free walk-in, parent-participation session.  For more information, please visit: http://www.lawrenceks.org/lprd/pdf/CommunitykidflyerFinal.pdf.
The adult outreach wellness program will be held 6:45-7:15 p.m., approximately 15 minutes after the children’s program concludes.  In this free session, adults will be re-introduced to the five food groups and will be given tools to make healthier choices when eating out or grocery shopping. In addition, the clinic will offer ways to make physical activity part of a family’s daily routine.  For more information, please visit: http://www.lawrenceks.org/lprd/pdf/Communityadultflyer.pdf.
